susanlillan3[1].jpg    Lillan CH Amberlove's Desert Girl AX MXJ NF
Owned and loved by Jerry and Susan Nelson
    Oct 7, 2000 - Mar 22, 2010

She danced from her airline crate, surveyed her domain, and promptly peed on the floor.  Only then did she dance over to Susan and leap into her arms.  This was our Amberlove's Desert Girl, Lillan, "The Little One" in Swedish.  Too small for some judges, fawned over by others, she ruled our hearts and the household.

Lillan danced to her championship, floating across the ring at the end of the lead; she danced her way to multiple agility titles, receiving encore requests to attend the Big Dance at Eukanuba.

Desert Girl mothered a litter of eleven plus a thousand, fostering every puppy and puppy look-alike she saw, teaching them all to dance.  She kept the peace in a pack of six, putting Niall on his back more than once despite being half his size.

A dark cloud slowed Lillan's dance, beginning with a car crash only a few miles from home after a trip to Eukanuba, followed by surgery for bloat and torsion.  Soon after, she began to dance lethargically and all too soon was taken by hemangiosarcoma.

Lillan danced one last time at the 2010 Nationals with Susan and the sire of her puppies, Niall.  They floated one last time around the ring, and Lillan didn't seem to mind being carried in a small box; this was Lillan's last dance.  She is not just waiting at the bridge, she is dancing on it!

Run free Lillan, until we meet at the bridge!

I adopted Pershing 12 years ago from the casper Humane Society.  My good friend, Jesi Bennett, bought him for me as a graduation present.  He was one of a litter of 4 pups that was left in a box on the doorstep of the CHS.  My little curly tailed guy was named Pershing, after the WWI General John "Black Jack" Pershing, although time would prove that my little general was more of a lover than a fighter.  He had the cutest curly tail, soft velvet ears, and black poka-dots on his tongue.

Pershing was such a funny little guy.  He was a lab-chow mix and was very chowish-all that mattered to him in this world was his mommy, and he followed me everywhere.  Upon reflection, I should have named him Velcro or Shadow.  He did not care too much for toys or playing fetch or rolling on his back for a belly rub.  He was much too dignified for that.  He liked to chew on Nyla and rawhide bones and occasionally play tug of war with a rope bone.  I swear he was born a grouchy old man as he "harrumphed" at so many things.  He did not like certain noises-the vaccuum and the unfolding of the ironing board (I don't like those either), thunder, and fireworks.  He always had hip problems and walked like he just got off a horse-think John Wayne, but that never stopped him from trying to catch those darn squirrels.  he loved to eat ice and would beg at the ice maker if there wasn't any to be had outside.  He had the best puppy dreams and would do a high-pitched howl in his sleep that was so funny.  He also loved to chew on ears-Christie, Lady, Lucie-it did not matter which dog was around, but he loved to just chew on their ears.

Pershing was no stranger to the vet and I am so grateful for all that they have done for him over the years.  He had eye surgery, a baseball sized cyst removed from his face, several surgeries to remove stones from his urethra, a tumor removed from his spleen, and not to mention the countless blood tests for his thyroid condition.  But he was always so good and the people at the vet were so wonderful to me and to Pershing.

There is so much more I could tell you but I think you all know how I felt about my fuzzy little guy, my little black bear cub.  Yes, I am a total wreck today, but I have Lucie and Penny at home to provide comfort, to lick my tears, and to make me laugh again.  I just ask that you think of my Pershing up in Heaven, out of pain, happy and carefree.
